Get All Over Fila Vintage

Fila was born in Italy in 1911. It wasn’t until 1973 really to be established and then became a firm favourite label on the tennis courts. The Swedish legend Bjorn Borg wore Fila at the peak of his career winning the Wimbledon title 5 times in the brand. It didn’t take long for the brand to become popular with football casuals throughout the UK and Saturday afternoons were a catwalk of lads kitted out in Fila gear. It became a cult brand with anyone who was trendy and Wham and iconic front man George Michael were regularly seen in Fila.
It’s now almost 2010 and Fila is back in a massive way with the Fila Vintage collection which is reissues of the classic styles from the late 70s and 80s. Nick Loves film the business heavily featured the brand with Danny Dyer wearing Fila Vintage in most scenes. This year Love remade the classic 80s football hooligan film The Firm again where again Fila Vintage gear was to be seen in most scenes and this has made the brand mega popular with the youth of today. If you want a bit of Fila Vintage yourself get on www.dont-wait-up.com and get some on your back

Cheap Monday was about until as recent as 2004 so in terms of an established brand Cheap Monday in still a new born. It was started by 4 friends who used to have a denim store in Stockholm just open at the weekends as this was a success they decide to open a full time the name changed from ‘weekend’ to’ weekday’ already we can see where the Cheap Monday name derives. The shop was selling expensive denim well and saw a gap in the market for a cheap fashionable jean so the lads decided to make a few hundred pairs of tight jeans and try them in the shop, these were not yet branded as Cheap Monday.
By jan 2005 the Cheap Monday brand and skull logo were created. It soon hit the stores of Sweden and quite quickly Cheap Monday became a recognised cool brand across Europe.
All the brand aims to do is offer fashionable jeans a good prices and have them sat next to expensive brands in good shops, from what we have seen that is exactly what they are achieving as you cant buy a better value jean than Cheap Monday and its definitely in the top stores next to premium brands.

The Farah Vintage Years!!!!

Farah was born in the early 1900s in America and for many of the early years Farah were producing clothing for the military. It wasn’t until 1970 that Farah hit the UK but it didn’t take long for the young Brits to get themselves into a pair of Farah slacks. At this time punk was the look but this soon changed and mod and skin became the look with many going for the ‘Stickmen’ look in their Farah gear. Soon a smart casual look became apparent and casuals were here, these were now the coolest kids on the block and Farah was a firm favourite for them to drop on for a Saturday trip to match teamed up with a bit of Fila or Sergio Tacchini sportswear and nice pair of European adidas trainers. The face of casual changed over the years and the smarter slack option of Farah was pushed out in favour of denim.
Now 30 odd years later Farah is forefront with the dressers with the now re-issued gear under the Farah Vintage brand still producing the classic slacks, knitwear and polos from the archives of the 70s.
The Farah gold tab has also hit the big screen a couple of times in the last few years both times in Nick Love films firstly The Business and only this year The Firm remake. So if its a brand with real history and style you’re after look no further than Farah Vintage and log on to www.dont-wait-up.com if you fancy getting kitted out.

In the 1980s any lad who was in the know and was worth his salt was into the casual scene. Basically the look favoured a nice tracksuit top, pair of adidas trainers and straight legged jeans. The casual scene actually started n the late 70s on Merseyside but soon lads up and down the country adopted the casual look and through the 80s casuals were on the terraces of every football ground on a Saturday afternoon.
The casual scene is still alive and going strong today but many of the older lads will tell you its not like it was back in the 80s as the gear is to readily available online but some of the young casuals do still have the passion of their older counterparts.

Casual From The Start!!!!

Once upon a time towards the end of the 1970s young lads from the north east of England change the face fashion. A phenomena called casual began with the scousers leading the way. Some claim as early as 1976 but no exact date is set in stone, there are even claims that it was mancs who started the casual trend or even the cockneys but we’re pretty sure it was the scallies of Merseyside. One of the major factors in being a ‘casual’ was sportswear, from adidas trainers to track tops by Italian sportswear brands Fila and Sergio Tacchini.
This trend got hold of young lads up and down the country each trying to get one up on one another by having a more exclusive Fila Track Top or Sergio Tacchini Polo Shirt. This gear was readily as it was very expensive and wasn’t really available in the shops in England. This led to swarms of young brits heading off across Europe to raid the sports shops and filling their head bags full of adidas trainers, Fila and Sergio Tacchini sportswear and basically anything else that took their fancy.
It did eventually become more main stream with uk sports shops having Fila and Sergio Tacchini tennis departments. Which took the shine off it for a lot as it was too easy to get hold of and the proper casuals would move onto to the next casual look.
